Synopsis: Decisions in clinical practice can be daunting, and social workers are under immense pressure to make the “right” decision all the time. The many nuances of complex clinical situations, coupled with the demands and oversight of employers, licensing boards, and the court of public opinion can be paralyzing. How can we move forward, particularly in situations where we are mandated by law to act?
Learning Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Appreciate the need for having several workable frameworks in place for ethical decision-making.
2. Examine ethical decision-making models, comparing their utility in the varied aspects of social work practice.
3. Review Delaware’s mandated reporting requirements and appreciate potentially sticky situations, using the models presented to work toward closure.
4. Discuss case examples and provide possible solutions using the models presented, discussing the challenges inherent in the process.
